The Susquehanna Valley region includes the five counties of Northumberland, Montour, Snyder, Union, and Columbia. Northumberland was the forefather of the counties. Established in 1772, Northumberland County covered 15,000 square miles and was the 10th county organized in Pa. Twenty-nine counties, in Pa, stem from those 15,000 miles, giving Northumberland County the name “Mother of Counties”.
